Intermediate Level Longstitch Journal
Date: Sunday, April 19
Time: 2:00 - 5:00 PM
Fee: $45.00
Paper crafters with some basic bookbinding experience are invited to join Cherryl Moote to learn one of the many variations for making a longstitch book. A longstitch book is a multi-signature book which folds flat when you are writing in it. These books can be made with soft paper covers or with a soft leather cover. These books make ideal journals and sketch books. You learn how to fold and prepare the signatures for the book, how to make the template for making the sewing holes and how to follow a stitching guide for long stitch books. In addition cover variations, alternative stitches and embellishments will be shown.
Students should bring: a bookbinding or tapestry needle (eye large enough to hold linen thread), 33 pieces of text weight paper cut 8.5” x 5.5” (neutral color), a book binding cradle (if you have one) or a phone book or old encyclopedia/thick book, a self-healing cutting mat (at least a 9 x 12 but 12 x 18 is ideal), sharp x-acto knife and extra blades, scissors (regular and detail), metal 12" ruler with cork back and/or Omnigrid© Quilter’s Ruler (6” x 12” size highly recommended), pencil which keeps a fine point, pencil sharpener and white eraser, bone folder and bookbinding awl.
