Flexagon Cards

Imagine an interactive card with 32 panels that mysteriously hide and reveal messages or photographs! You’ll make such a card in this class and another one with 16 panels and a pop-up greeting. The panels on these flexagon cards can be shaped and modified in many ways, allowing you lots of creative choices for unveiling your message! These whimsical cards can be readily adapted to fit any occasion. Michael will also demonstrate how to make custom fitted envelopes and portfolios to house your flexagon cards. Students should bring: 0.5 mm mechanical pencil with 2-H lead, eraser, 12 inch steel ruler, three-sided architect’s ruler with 1/16 inch scale (optional), scissors, craft knife with fresh blades, cutting mat, bone folder, fresh glue stick, a bookbinders awl and decorative papers to embellish cards. Additionally, please bring the following components to create your projects (mat board in the required sizes will be available for purchase at the shop):
Papers for POP-UP FLEXAGON CARD
3 sheets cardstock , 8.5 x 11 inches (each a different color – card components)
2 sheets cardstock, 8.5 x 11 inches (portfolio to hold card)
Papers for 32-PANEL FLEXAGON CARD
3 sheets cardstock , 8.5 x 11 inches (each a different color – card components)
1 sheet cardstock, 8.5 x 11 inches (envelope to hold card
Note: Both surfaces of the papers you use to make your FLEXAGON CARDS will be visible on the finished class projects. Choose papers accordingly. It might help to consider these projects working models.
